MSC Services provides eligible employees with the opportunity to purchase voluntary short-term and long-term disability income benefits through Unum.
Voluntary Short-Term Disability
MSC Services provides benefit eligible employees the opportunity to purchase short-term income benefits through Unum.
In the event you become disabled from a non-work-related injury or sickness, disability income protection benefits are provided as a source of income. You are not eligible to receive disability benefits if you are receiving workers’ compensation benefits.
Disability benefits protect your paycheck and replaces a portion of your income if an injury or illness forces you out of work for a short period of time.
This benefit is available to all employees working 30 or more hours per week.
Short Term Disability coverage is 100% voluntary and replaces 60% of your pre-disability earnings up to a maximum of $1,500 per week.
There is a pre-existing condition exclusion provision where the insurance company can exclude you from coverage for twelve (12) months for a specific illness if you have been treated for that illness within the last three (3) months.
If you elect STD, the premium is deducted from your biweekly paycheck.
Plan Features
Benefits begin:
- Accidents: After a 7-day waiting period (on the 8th day)
- Illnesses: After a 7-day waiting period (on the 8th day)
Maximum Duration: 12 weeks
Maternity Benefit Period:
- 6 weeks
- 8 weeks for C-Section

MSC Services provides benefit eligible employees the opportunity to purchase long-term income benefits through Unum.
In the event you become disabled from a non-work-related injury or illness, long-term disability income protection benefits are provided as a source of income. You are not eligible to receive disability benefits if you are receiving workers’ compensation benefits.
Long-term disability benefits protect your paycheck and replaces a portion of your income if an injury or illness forces you out of work for an extended or unforeseeable period of time.
This benefit is available to all employees working 30 or more hours per week.
Long-Term Disability coverage is 100% voluntary and replaces 60% of your pre-disability earnings up to a maximum of $10,000 per month.
There is a pre-existing condition exclusion provision where the insurance company can exclude you from coverage for twelve (12) months for a specific illness if you have been treated for that illness within the last three (3) months.

- Accidents & Illness: After a 90-day waiting period
Maximum Duration: Up to Social Security Normal Retirement Age (SS ADEA)
Own Occupation Period: 2 Years
Guarantee Issue (GI): Initial GI up to Plan Maximum
